Harvard Grad Student Tutoring in Technical and Creative Pursuits

I am a student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design pursuing a Master of Architecture. Previously, I received a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from MIT, a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

I enjoy learning and the opportunity to share any knowledge I have learned along the way. I am not a tutor with a set curriculum; I hope to craft curriculum around the questions of an individual student.

As is often said, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime." This is what I believe about tutoring. It is not an opportunity to complete a student's assignments for him/her, but rather an opportunity to teach the skills that will have benefits far exceeding the completion of a single assignment.

Writing

My writing skills include essay structuring and editing with an eye for proper grammar. I also have training in technical writing.

Adobe Photoshop

I have used Photoshop heavily for 5+ years in creating and manipulating images and post-processing output from other software. My strength is in the use of Photoshop for communicating design intentions. Please note that professional photo retouching is not my area of expertise.

Adobe Illustrator

My experience in Adobe Illustrator includes both creating from scratch and use as part of a workflow. I have extensive experience working with output from AutoCAD and other vector programs for use in presentation documents.

PSAT

During my own time in high school, I took the PSAT three times and became a National Merit Commended Student. My areas of expertise include mathematics and grammar. In addition, I teach the test-taking strategies I used throughout my PSAT/SAT career.

Differential Equations

While earning two engineering degrees (Bachelor's and Master's), I used differential equations both in abstract math applications and in practical physics applications. I have experience with both ordinary and partial differential equations. I have used differential equations in the Lagrange formulation of mechanics, particularly in the field of structural dynamics.

AutoCAD

I have used AutoCAD for 5+ years, both in its basic and advanced features. In addition to the drawing tools, I am especially familiar with blocks, user coordinate systems, paper space, plot styles, and layer management - everything necessary to create an organized, professional drawing. I am also knowledgeable in rules of thumb for line-weights in drawing building plans. Note that my expertise is concentrated in 2D CAD drawing.

Adobe InDesign

I have used InDesign for 5+ years in the creation of presentation boards, posters, and reports. I am well-versed in proper file management, especially the use of paragraph styles to create unified documents (with automatic reference notes, cross referenced images, and table of contents). I have worked documents ranging from a single page to over 200 pages.

Mechanical Engineering

I have an Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from UT Austin and a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from MIT. I have working proficiency of many subjects that overlap with mechanical engineering, as I took many of my electives in structures. I am available to tutor in subjects relating to engineering mechanics (statics, mechanics of solids, structural analysis, finite element methods).

Civil Engineering

I have an Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from UT Austin and a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from MIT. Most of my knowledge is concentrated either in structures/engineering mechanics (statics, mechanics of solids, structural analysis) and energy modeling principles. In addition to the basics, I studied continuum mechanics, structural dynamics, motion-based design, and finite element methods during my time at MIT.
