Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I currently work as a special education teacher in Dover MA, and most of the students I work with on some level have ADD/ADHD. As a result, my lessons, teaching, and support skills are related to the support of these students and I know how to work well with them.

Aspergers

I currently work as a special educator in Dover MA and I work with several students with Aspergers. My teaching is catered towards making academics accessible for these students and helping them develop strong social skills.

Dyslexia

I currently work as a special education teacher in a middle school working with students with dyslexia. In addition, I have been trained in Wilson which teaches phonics and word recognition to students with dyslexia. I also am trained in the Orton-Gillingham method with is specific to students with dyslexia.

Social Studies

I have taught Social Studies at the elementary school level from grades 3-5. I currently for the last three years have taught Social Studies to grades 5-8 in a middle school setting. I have my license in middle school Social Studies as well. Finally I have my bachelor's in History.

Special Needs

I currently work as a Special Education teacher in the Chelsea school system in grades 5-8. My students have severe behavior and emotional disorders as well as physical impairments. In addition, I have my master's in special education. I am also working on a second master's with a reading specialty which focuses on helping special needs students with reading challenges.

Study Skills

I have experience working with students in both the academic setting organizing and developing strong study skills as well as students in the testing environment (ISEE, SAT, ACT) looking to develop strong study skills on a specific schedule for a test date. When I work with students to develop study skills, I focus on note-taking, outlining, binder/notebook organization, long term and short term planning with assignments and studying, and most importantly developing confidence in the students skills.
