Throughout my career I have focused on educating children and adults in a creative and flexible fashion. While attending college for my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in English and Elementary teaching, I was a Coordinator of a tutorial program that worked in Boston Public Charter Schools to bridge the Achievement Gap. I worked my way up from tutoring 2-4 students at a time in English or Math to running the program, providing training for groups of 20 tutors, and designing curriculum. Not only did I need excellent teaching skills to impart knowledge on the elementary, middle and high schoolers we served, but I also had to work with college students to teach them how to teach.
In my teaching career I have worked with students of a variety of ages and levels. I currently am a behavior therapist working with children with autism using ABA methods. My philosophy is that every person can learn, period. It is the teacher's job to figure out how to present the material in a way that helps that particular person to learn it. I'm not going to lecture you, unless you learn best from listening. A session with me is more likely going to involve activities that stimulate your whole brain: songs to learn the times tables, going out in the back yard to create real world math examples, using magnetic poetry to learn the parts of a sentence. My goal is for you to learn, and I will find the ways that best work for you as an individual.
