I am a Professor in Higher Education with ten years of experience teaching subjects such as mathematics
, and astronomy
MY TUTORING EXPERIENCE:
I will help the student develop the problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills needed to do well. Many of the subjects that I tutor are considered very difficult, so I attempt to create a positive learning environment where students are not afraid to ask questions. I am a patient tutor that customizes the tutoring experience to the preference of the student.
I like to make sure that my students have a good educational foundation in the subject they are trying to learn. My tutoring sessions usually start off with some initial problems to find out where your weak points are. Those are addressed before moving on to more advanced material.
WHY I SHOULD BE YOUR TUTOR:
I have a Master of Science
in Physics, and would also be a great choice as a physics or physical science
tutor. I have taught introductory calculus
-based physics (mechanics through modern physics), introductory algebra
-based physics (mechanics through modern physics), and astronomy courses at the college level. I have also tutored students one-on-one in these subjects. Do you have an advanced Physics course? Don't worry, I can still help you.
I am a great choice as a math
tutor because of my extensive experience teaching and tutoring mathematics. I have taught and tutored mathematics in courses in higher education for ten years. I have taught everything from fraction addition (pre-algebra
) to college algebra
. I have also tutored Physics students in subjects in mathematics such as: algebra, geometry
, and calculus. While working at Pearson Education, I had the opportunity to tutor students in subjects ranging from pre-algebra to calculus.
With a Masters of Education in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University, I incorporate educational multimedia into tutoring sessions to help students visualize some of the complex ideas that can come up in these fields.
I prefer to meet students in public spaces such as: libraries, student unions, and restaurants. If you know of a great tutoring location, don't hesitate to suggest it. I am flexible, so that I can meet the needs of my students.
6 hours notice required
For group rates, I charge an additional $20 per person.
I don't have a car & must meet all students near a subway station.

When is it a good time to look for a tutor? Some students wait until a big exam comes up, and do lots of cramming at the last minute. While that strategy may work for some, others may need to take a different approach.
What if you need to take a mathematics or physics course and you know you will have difficulties? Maybe the course is really advanced or it...
Final exams are coming up and you are freaking out!
There are steps that you can take in order to help you prepare for the upcoming exam.
Do not wait until the night before to start studying. Start going over the material weeks before the final.
Previous exams - use the midterm and any other exams to help you study material from earlier...
Here are seven helpful tips for that upcoming test:
1. Try not to panic! Fear can cause you to forget information that you would normally know.
2. Cramming for a test does not work. Start preparing about a week before the test.
3. After the test is handed out, write down all the formulas, rules, and other information you want to remember on scrap paper. This will act as a reference...
