I have several years of experience tutoring high school and college level math and science with subjects ranging from algebra to calculus, from biology to microbiology. From 1997 through 2002 I financially supported my Pharmacy college career by being a volunteer tutor and a professor's assistant in the Math and Science Department at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. I received college credit in exchange for my help. I will encourage any student no matter their math skills level to reach their potential and confidently solve any mathematical problem they are challenged with in their college career.

I am a first and foremost a parent with children that had made it through the public school system into successful college careers. I know firsthand the needs and challenges that students face when preparing for the increasing demands in their school career. I will treat your child as one of mine with care, discipline and full attention. I will show them the way to success in their school career.

ADD/ADHD

Having to teach my own children to adjust, understand and take advantage of their learning styles made me understand better the difference between ADD and ADHD.I first came across this two conditions when I was getting my B.S. in Pharmacy from the Mass College of Pharmacy in 1992 and had to learn the pharmacology of the medications to treat this conditions and how to counsel patient's that take this medications. But it wasn't until I had to consult with numerous doctors, as two of my children were suspected of having this disabilities that I learned the full scope of this conditions. It was then that I got a clear understanding of ADD and ADHD.
Each condition is often confused with one another but with time, tolerance and understanding we will successfully get your child to understand the condition that affects them and adjust the circumstances to fit their learning disabilities instead of letting the circumstances affect their learning.
I will devise lessons to fit appropriately a person affected by ADD and concentrate on the areas that offer most difficulty to their learning as concentration, time management, self-regulation and organization. I will make sure that this lessons are short and encourage them to practice constantly so they become successful students.
On the other hand with my ADHD students I will devise lessons that concentrate on breaking down the mathematical subjects so they could learn it well and become successful students. I will make sure that I work with their parents to help them follow up with their assigned material so too much work does not pile up and they do not become frustrated.
Together we will teach both type of students the skills to lead successful school careers as well as reach their potential to move on to set and reach any goals they want.

Algebra 1

In Algebra 1 we will explore and learn all the different ways that numbers could be used to express certain real life situations. Yes I said it, you will be learning topics that apply to real life, and all using the numbers and operations that you have learned so far in your young school career.
If you have not learn them yet I will help you get there and together we will confidently learn this topics: Variables in algebra, Exponents and powers, Order of operations, Equations and Inequalities, Tables and Graphs and Introduction to functions. Let's start!

Algebra 2

In Algebra 2 we will make math come alive by building up on your knowledge of basic math principles. We will go from Equations and Inequalities, Solving Equations and Inequalities algebraically and graphically. We will solve this problems and systems of equalities and inequalities and will relate them to real life problems and situations.
We will focus on test taking skills and build up more confidence to prepare for high school mathematical proficiency.

GED

I will make sure we cover all areas needed to make you competent to take your GED. By providing lessons and tests that focus on reviewing and learning the basic knowledge to master these test, you will be able to confidently take your GED and move on to the next step on your professional or personal goals.

As I was preparing to post the materials for my WyzAnt profile and blog, my twelve year old approached me at my desk to ask for help with her 7th grade math homework. She looked overwhelmed as she was setting her chair next to mine. Knowing my daughter as well as I do, I knew she felt frustrated and lost. This was her fist week back to school after the winter vacation, and I know it takes a... read more
