Having grown up on Long Island, I moved to Boston to attend college and have stayed ever since to teach for the Boston Public Schools. My favorite part of the day is working with students one-on-one with lessons, skills or activities that they enjoy or need a little extra support. I have experience working with all types of students from those in regular education classes to those in special education classes and even those who grew up speaking a different or more than one language. I have always been very interested in languages, cultures and language learning, as I grew up speaking both Mandarin Chinese and English. In high school, I enrolled in both Spanish and French language classes. My other interests include reading, making jewelry, traveling and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to getting to know a student's interests, strengths and areas that need extra support so that I can better help him/her succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

In 2006, I completed my master's degree in Moderate Special Needs from Boston College. I received my licensure after completing the MTEL tests. For the past seven years, I have worked with high school students with special needs and many of them are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. A few have been on medication but for the most part, we have worked in self-regulation and self-advocacy so that the students themselves can begin to take ownership of and responsibility for their education.

Special Needs

In August 2006, I completed my Master's degree in Moderate Special Needs at Boston College. Shortly after, I passed the MTEL certification test in Moderate Special Needs and received my licensure from DESE. I have been working as a teacher of students with special needs for the past seven years.
