I have extensive experience with Biblical studies. Beside undergrad and grad level classes, I have been an active student of the Bible (both testaments) since I was a teen. I consistently score very highly on Bible trivia games, and am very comfortable using tools like Strong's concordance and lexicons.
I have been a teacher in the Christian community for more than 20 years. When I co-pastored a church, I regularly taught from the Bible. In my current church, I am on the preaching rotation and been studying the concepts of exegetic preaching.
My favorite book is Habakkuk, my favorite chapter is Psalm 117, my favorite verse is Isa 43:19. While reared on the KJV, I use multiple translations including the under-valued Phillips new testament.
As part of my work to get a Master's degree in Jazz performance, I had to take Jazz Theory, Orchestration, Ethnomusicology, Jazz History, and an independent study with the chair of the composition department.
I write and arrange in many different styles and have pieces for sax quintet, large mixed choirs, gospel choir, cello and piano, etc. I write hymns, pop songs, jazz tunes, pieces for electronic music, and much more.
I have been playing music for 50 years. I have a masters in jazz piano and 35+ years experience as a church musician. I currently co-lead a worship team, teach private lessons and play in a band.
I have been playing for more than 40 years and have an active roster of satisfied students. I play both acoustic and electric guitars and teach many styles, including rock, folks, pop, gospel, and beginner jazz. I also have proficiency in solo guitar.
I am a well-known worship leader and use my 12-string frequently to lead small and large group singing.
I work with intermediate students to expand their chord vocabulary, focusing on both open chord forms and movable forms, including 4-note jazz chords. I also work to help with finger picking techniques ultimately using all 5 fingers of the picking hand.
I also focus on the cycle of fifths and encourage students to write music using the basics of diatonic harmonic theory. I use the cycle to teach transposition and challenge intermediate students to use it to learn to play songs in less guitar-friendly keys.
In my teaching, I provide students with examples of the skills being presented. I encourage them to bring examples of the music they would like to play as well.
I have 20 years of experience as an Access programmer. I have held several jobs in which Access database maintenance was a primary function.
I have been using Excel since the 80's. I currently use it to support several clients in their statistical analysis, often writing macros to import or export into or out of Access. I also use VBA to automate reformatting of regularly needed data.
I can teach the basic skill set for piano. I have been playing for more than 40 years and have an active roster of satisfied students in addition to references for engagements I've played for. I also have a Masters Degree in Jazz Piano.
