As an undergraduate I studied the math/physics track as a geology major and would like to follow my love for math and physics through tutoring.
While in high school I tutored freshman algebra students, and while an undergraduate I tutored students in a college-level calculus class. I also worked in a first grade classroom and frequently helped individual students with math lessons.
When tutoring students in math, I like to talk through example problems with students to see what parts they are struggling with. I can then address those points by seeing what about the concept is confusing the student (for example: having a hard time visualizing, needing it explained with a real life example) and teaching that particular concept in a way that overcomes these difficulties. I also believe that practice is very important, and that using different types of questions that address the same concept help the student to understand the concept better.
