ACT English
I have tutored all sections of the ACT before. My versatility makes me unique--I am an excellent writer, but because of my economics degree and love of science, I am highly qualified to tutor those sections as well.
Algebra 1
Much of the math curriculum at Great Oaks Charter School, where I tutored for the last year, was Algebra 1. I have also tutored Algebra 1 to several of my WyzAnt.com students since then, each of whom has remarked upon the clarity of my explanations.
American History
Starting in August, I will be attending the Curry School of Education at UVA to earn a PGMT, a teaching degree, which will make me one of the most highly qualified history teachers in the country. I am a history fanatic and am excellent at helping with all aspects of the course--I am a fantastic editor for both style and substance and also know how to make study guides and schedules to help prepare for exams.
Chemistry
I took two years of chemistry in high school, including AP Chemistry, on which test I earned a 5 (the highest possible score). I have kept up with chemistry as a hobby since then and am therefore still perfectly qualified to help tutor high school chemistry.
GRE
I have taken the GRE, earning stellar scores, and tutored it twice. The GRE is like most standardized tests--you can be taught to do well on it. With dedicated, experienced tutoring, I can show you where and how you need to focus your studying and then pinpoint your biggest challenges to help you earn the best grade possible.
My scores (the new exam is out of 170, 170, 6):
Verbal Reasoning: 168, 98%
Quantitative Reasoning: 166, 94%
Analytical Writing: 5.5, 96%
Writing
I am one of those people who writes all the time. I write essays, poetry, short stories, scripts, you name it! At Vassar, I interacted daily with brilliant professors whose first job was to turn us into thinkers, and whose second job was to give us the writing skills needed to express our newly-discovered thoughts. I therefore have four years of the best writing education any institution could offer, and I'm always eager to use my skills to help others' writing.
This, I believe, is one of the reasons I am such a great editor: I enjoy taking a piece of writing and making it as concise and clear as possible. Finally, I have the experience editing to support my passion: I edited my high school newspaper, copy edited for an economics magazine, and have been a writing tutor for almost two years now.
