Who I Am:
I began my teaching career tutoring in a high-needs charter school in Boston, Mass. I used my exceptional writing abilities to fill the role of "second English teacher" for my students, helping them in all stages of their final research papers, including everything from thesis formation to structural and stylistic editing.
I also worked with the highest-need students, teaching them basic grammar and writing so they could advance to the 10th grade. Because of my thorough preparation, dedication, and clarity, every one of the students with whom I worked passed the exam with a 90% or better.
Cristo Rey reaffirmed my love of of bringing knowledge to students of all ages, and I especially valued the relationships I formed with my students. I next looked for an opportunity that would let me commit to just a few students to have the greatest influence possible. I found this opportunity as a member of the Great Oaks Charter School Tutor Corps in Newark, New Jersey (August 2011 - April 2012). As a full-time tutor, I worked with two small groups of middle school students teaching every core subject, including reading, writing, math, science, history, and art history. My secondary responsibilities included substituting for absent teachers, creating learning materials for the entire school, and coaching the school debate and soccer teams.
I recently finished the first year of my master's program at UVA. The highly-regarded program (ranked 8th in the nation) is designed to produce the most committed, organized, and engaging social studies teachers in the country.
Though I majored in economics, Vassar fulfilled its role as a liberal arts institution by teaching me how to write, edit, and think critically just as ably as I can calculate a country’s trade deficit. Whatever your academic needs, if you want a dedicated, energetic tutor who puts the student's achievement over all else, please contact me any time with requests or inquiries.
