I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a teaching certificate for all high school science subjects. After college, I taught Biology and Chemistry in a large high school in Texas. I also recently graduated from Rice University in Houston, TX, earning my MS in Bioscience Research and Health Policy. I am also the second oldest of seven kids so I am pretty much ready to hang out with a student of any age and get them interested in something. Science is fun to me and I think that the students I tutor can't help but feel the excitement I impart when I'm explaining something. I love to use experiments and games to teach a subject as well as digging up good stories from history or current events. I also have a passion for music and have been in a choir and band ever since elementary school. I am a soprano in my church choir and just finished up four and a half years of marching band for UT as a trumpet player. This meant I got to go to all the football games which I was very happy about because I am also a huge sports fanatic!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have tutored in algebra 2 before, and I'm currently a Geometry teacher, which involves a lot of algebra 2.

Chemistry

Taught HS Chemistry.
Took 4 Chemistry/Organic Chemistry courses in college, and several labs.
Chemistry was one of my best subjects on my MCAT.

Trumpet

I have played trumpet since I was 10 years ols, including 4 years in the Longhorn Marching Band at the University of Texas. I was one of the 70 out of 200 students who got excepted as a trumpet after rigorous tryouts each of these years. I have also played in their basketball/volleyball band. In high school, I got a one at state on three separate occasions.

We started with the basic LHB (Long Horn Band) warm up for at least 5 minutes as well as the chromatic scale. We also practiced the flat scales that are usually seen in an ATSSB try out. Then we looked at two of the trumpet pieces he is expected to learn for the fall. We practised them 4 measures at a time and repeated parts we had trouble on until they were familiar. We also discussed differences... read more
