I'm a math major at UMass Lowell and I'm seriously thinking about being a teacher after I graduate. I'm interested in tutoring as a career exploration. I have strong math skills. To be honest, English is not my first language, but I will do the best I can to explain everything.
I have a lot of tutoring experience. I have been in the HAP (Homework assistant program) for 3 years when I was in high school. I provided after school tutoring to the children with their math homework at Boston Public Library. I encouraged the students to think critically and independently. I have an internship in an adult education school for this summer. I work as a math teacher assistant at the adult education school. I will go through the examples with the students first, and then encourage the students to solve the similar problem by themselves. If they still can't solve it, I will use different method to approach and explain the problem. I'm volunteering in the Chinese Progressive Association as a teacher. I teach the elderly how to use computer and some basic English conversation.
