Qualifications: 12 years teaching experience in public and private schools in Belmont, Arlington and Boston. Certification in Wilson Reading System with tutoring experience in Steps 1-12.
A member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and a preferred tutor on their Referral for Services database, I have a private tutoring studio in my Belmont home. I am also willing to travel within a 30-minute radius to teach at another venue. Before I began tutoring privately, I worked as Executive Assistant to the former president of the New England Branch of the IDA. She became my mentor and my supervisor in training in the Wilson Reading System. I have taught at all levels in the Wilson program, and the results have been truly inspiring. It is my goal to help children at risk achieve success in reading and writing as early as possible.
If a student is struggling with reading, don't hesitate to seek appropriate support. It is well-documented that students who do not receive early intervention suffer low self-esteem and anxiety.
The private tutoring I offer is for students of all ages with language-based learning disabilities. With input from numerous other sources - the Orton-Gillingham “jewel case” of flashcards for timed readings, “chaining exercises” from Lindamood, the Deschler textbook organizer strategies, and Project Read's paradigm of “Framing Your Thoughts” for written expression - I use primarily Wilson materials and methodology to support students in: decoding (reading), encoding (writing), phonological processing, reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary development, and written expression.
I am happy to collaborate with a student's school providing reading assessments, progress reports, and participation in team meetings if needed.
