Hi there! I have been an educator since 2003, most recently as an adjunct instructor in English as a Second Language, developmental English, and first year college English. My educational background is in Linguistics, which means that I study the structure and science of language. So I come with a knowledge of how most separate languages work and how we learn them, either growing up or as an adult.
I've spent quite a bit of my time either teaching classes or tutoring. I adapt to my students' needs and language backgrounds. For my ESL students, I will specifically ask how grammar structures work in their native languages, so that they can use what they already know as they master English. When it comes to native speakers, I work with the students, asking lots of questions about what they mean or don't mean in their writings, and that they say what they mean in the most concise way. Grammar with native speakers comes last, unless I cannot understand what they are writing. In tutoring, flexibility is key!
I look forward to helping my students the best way possible.
