A life-long learner with a collaborative approach, I am able to combine subject expertise with good interpersonal and coaching skills. Let’s have fun working jointly to master your subject and solve interesting problems!
Here is my background:
Starting in high school, I developed a great appreciation for mathematics. I always did very well in my math courses and was fortunate to study for three years with one of the finest mathematics teachers (award winning) in the state of New Jersey. I especially enjoyed his advanced placement calculus class.
I earned a B.A. summa cum laude with Honors in Religion from Haverford College. There I took many science courses, including five semesters of chemistry, five semesters of cell and molecular biology, and two semesters of physics, along with a class in vector calculus and linear algebra. In my classes, I had several opportunities to use my mathematics background in scientific applications.
I earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin.
After five years of postdoctoral research in microbial genetics and biochemistry, I switched fields and became a computer programmer and software manager, specializing in embedded systems and database technology.
As a programmer, I learned many software languages and honed my skills in problem solving and algorithm design.
When I became a manager, I had the opportunity to develop solid one-on-one coaching, mentoring, and counseling skills.
Given my love for mathematics, coaching, and problem solving, it was a natural move to develop a tutoring practice in mathematics, covering Algebra 1 through Calculus.
