I specialize in tutoring middle school and high school students in math and science (including MCAS and SAT prep).
I have found as a teacher and a tutor that working one-on-one can make a huge difference in a student's understanding of the material. This applies to students who are struggling to grasp the material as well as those students seeking advanced understanding. (I love it when I am working with a student and I suddenly see in their face that he or she "gets it.")
I am licensed to teach chemistry and biology at the secondary level in Massachusetts and I have three years of experience teaching high school science. I was also an Instructor in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School for nine years.
Education
Ph.D. Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Tufts Medical School
M.S. Oceanography, University of Maine at Orono
B.S. Biology (magna cum laude), Tufts College of Liberal Arts
Valedictorian, Oakmont Regional High School
Often, students don't understand the material as it is being presented in class. I sit down with a student and explain the material so that the student can understand it. I like to ask questions so that the students discover the answers for themselves. This usually leads to higher quiz and test scores and to a higher course grade. I am a patient tutor and I tailor my instruction to fit my student's needs.
