I am a licensed English Teacher for grades 5-12 and an ELA/SAT tutor with over six years of experience. Do you need help writing papers for English or Social Studies? Would you like to maximize your SSAT or SAT Reading/Writing scores? Are you struggling to understand the books you read for school? Are you trying to prepare a college essay that will make the school of your dreams stand up and take notice? If you answered YES to any of these questions, I am the tutor for you!

I am knowledgeable, patient, and kind, and can explain difficult ELA concepts in terms that students can understand. It is important to me that students are engaged, and I strive to make my lessons as interactive as possible. I prepare diligently for each lesson, from creating grammar and vocabulary worksheets to reading the books my students are assigned so I can help them to interpret reading passages. I also have an extensive library of SSAT and SAT prep materials, including books and materials that I've created myself. I am always willing to help students with writing assignments, whether research papers, book reports, or any of the four main types of essays: persuasive, expository, narrative, or creative.

I hope you will choose me to be your ELA or SAT tutor. I welcome new students, and will always do my best to accommodate schedules.

Sincerely,

Laura C.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to teach English in the state of Massachusetts for grades 5-12. I have also spent over 5 years as a literacy tutor in elementary and middle schools. I have worked with students on reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary, and learning how to write effectively. Students I tutored enjoyed significant improvements in reading and writing skills.
