I can help your child have more confidence in math.
Anxiety and discouragement often get in the way of students reaching their full potential. I have experience coaching students, focusing on positive reinforcement. Confidence improves with success at any level.
Students are more likely to understand and retain information when the lessons accommodate an individual's learning style. This is often difficult to accomplish in a big classroom.
I teach outside the box using real world scenarios to make math tangible. I use manipulatives and games to help teach math concepts. My goal is to eliminate fear and anxiety around math, while building on students' strengths. The look on a child's face when they actually "get it" is priceless.
For middle and high school students, I also help with organizational and study skills. Preparing study guides with formulas and important information is a critical skill that can help any student master a topic.
I have experience as a substitute teacher and a math specialist tutor in Andover, Massachusetts, and do private tutoring in Andover and its surrounding towns. I teach all levels, including moderate special needs.
I am working towards my Massachusetts teaching certificate in elementary and secondary mathematics, which I will complete in 2013.
