I have worked with students in my community for over twenty years. I think that students want to be a part of the learning process and not to be just the passenger on the train. I have a good sense of humor and think that all things interconnect and that goes for school as well. I am excited about working with students because I hope that I can make this world a better place as they go through this great adventure. Language is a way to connect to each other through books and dialogue. We cannot understand ourselves if we do not recognize that we are not alone, but are part of a global network.
I think that it is important to assess what the student knows in the subject matter and what the learner is interested in doing. People learn in different ways. One child may like to draw or hum tunes. Webbing is a good way to translate ideas into a great paper. I like the funnel approach to writing. You start with a general statement and narrow it down to the point you want to show. You have three supports and then a conclusion. I have a Master of Arts in English from Fitchburg State University. I have a preliminary educator's license for English in grades 5-8, which was granted in 2006. I am a patient, positive, and creative person with a good sense of humor.

I have volunteered and taught elementary aged children for more than 25 years. I have substituted in the elementary grades for more than three years. I have done one on one reading tutorials. I have done group reading with dialogue responses. I have a Master's degree in English.

Reading is a skill that can be accomplished by a variety of ways. Sounding out words, which involves dipthongs, is one way. Sound alike words are difficult transitions that can be worked on through reinforcement. Reducing sentences to the basic subject and predicate may focus the child. Reading something the child has an interest such as comics or sports may achieve the purpose.
