I graduated with my B.A. in Political Science in 2011, and immediately joined Americorps. I worked for Americorps State and National for a full term in the South Bronx, working as a literacy specialist for City Year at PS 154x J.D. Hyatt Elementary. In that time, I worked with over 50 students doing 1:1 and group interventions and intensives, in an attempt to help those students graduate at grade level in Mathematics and English. Following my term of service in New York, I joined Americorps VISTA for a 3 month term, and started a summer school with the Emmaus Family Shelter in Haverhill, MA. I have just finished living for a year in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I worked as a research assistant for graduate students at Københavns Universitet.
I will be beginning my graduate education in the fall, in a dual degree (J.D., Ph.d.) program.
Beyond the more mundane details of my education and experience, I am an avid reader and writer, and a polyglot. I speak 4 languages (including Danish, Bokmål Norwegian, and Swedish), and am conversational in French. Because of my fascination with literature, writing, and language, I will be most helpful to students that are looking to improve their written English skills, their conversational skills (including fluency), and their comprehensive skills. The majority of my professional experience, however, has been in helping students improve their sight reading, verbal fluency, and phonemic awareness.
