I am a recent graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where I took private lessons for tenor saxophone, and played in the school Stage Band, Jazz Combo, and Concert Band. Stage Band focused on big band style jazz ensemble pieces, Jazz Combo focused on improvisational skills, and Concert Band played marching band style pieces. Jazz Combo and Stage Band required auditions to join. I have been playing saxophone for nine years. Along with playing saxophone in school bands, I also arranged and performed vocally with student-run bands on campus. Along with studying music, I also thrived in math and sciences. I took introductory physics during sophomore year, took two years of chemistry in one year during my junior year, finishing the year with a 5 on the AP test, took math through the AB Calculus level, and studied AP Biology in my senior year. I tutored Chemistry, Physics, and all levels of Math previous AB calculus as a volunteer student tutor on campus, working each Sunday night during the school year. I have run cross country for six years and ran on the school track team throughout high school.
