My name is Ilia. My family came from Russia in 1998. During the course of my life in the US I have gained valuable experience in education and culture of this country. I am not only bi-lingual but I also consider myself bi-cultural, which enables me to understand people from many walks of life and look at them from different standpoints. In my years in Russia I received excellent education as I attended something of an equivalent of prep schools in the US. In high school I studied physics and math by accelerated program and have good ability and aptitude toward these subjects. In the US I continued my education attending STCC, where I picked up general credits and American International College in Springfield, Mass., from which I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
My tutoring experience includes working with college ESL students as well as teaching math and English to those taking GED classes. Having completed high level math courses in high school and college allows me to tutor in different levels of math including Algebra and Calculus. I've worked with very diverse populations of learners for many of whom English was not the first language and many of whom struggled. I strive to accommodate different types of students.
My main principle in working with students is trying to put myself in their shoes and understand what path they can take and guide them along it. I understand how big of a difference education makes in one's life and try to convey that to a student.
