I have a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and East Asian Studies with a minor of Economics, so I am quite knowledgeable about world history and politics. My concentration was in Japanese history, culture, language, and society. I have been studying Japanese formally since I was 16 years old and speak Japanese at the intermediate-advanced level. I can teach beginning and elementary Japanese, all three writing systems, and useful expressions and language that are needed for business transactions, traveling, and living in Japan.
I have been living and working abroad in Japan since 2006 as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher but have recently relocated back to Massachusetts. In my various teaching positions in Japan, I learned different techniques and skills to teach English as a Foreign Language that I think are quite efficient. I would love to work with students who would love the chance to help out with students who need some ESL/EFL instruction. I also obtained a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 2009. In this program, I learned about language acquisition and teaching practices.
As for other languages, I speak Spanish at a basic high school level. I also can teach basic algebra and math for elementary, middle school and high school students. English literature is also a favorite of mine. I can also assist with composition and reading.
I look forward to working with you!
