As my degree in French and Latin with a minor in chemistry shows, I have a very well-rounded academic background. My collective eighteen years studying languages has instilled in me a deep comprehension of syntax and grammar as well as an appreciation for language and literature. I am confident with my abilities doing work in English as well as Latin and French. I am especially adept at argumentative essays. My studies in Chemistry have given men, above all, an organized approach to any undertaking. My diverse academic career provided me with experience in numerous languages, chemistry and physics, and advanced maths.
The major benefit of a one-on-one tutoring environment is that a student can be taught in the manner which best suits their personal learning style. I believe it is imperative to identify a student's preferred learning style and to adapt my teaching accordingly. When working with a student, I prefer to allow the student to work through a problem and discover the answer themselves, while I guide and instruct them, instead of merely showing them. While grades and test scores are obviously important, it is my main goal to increase a student's confidence in a subject. With confidence comes ease and familiarity, and an ability to apply knowledge critically. I hope that the skills I teach my students will aid them in all their endeavors.
