I am a natural born tutor. I tutored at the age of five! In my Montessori pre-school, 5 year-olds helped the 3 & 4 year-olds with their learning tasks. After I graduated pre-school, as an elementary school kid, I used to go back to the Montessori School and tutor the young ones. As a university student, I tutored in the university Tutoring Center.

I am an English language specialist. Teaching Reading Comprehension and Standardized test taking skills are two of several areas of my expertise. ACT reading requires skills in grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. My master's degree in teaching English prepared me well for teaching and tutoring reading comprehension, which I've taught and tutored for the past 25 years. Some students with ADD who have difficulty focusing in class are able to focus well in a one-on-one tutoring situation. I present information to the student in ways that he/she can manage and digest in effective periods of time. I also present and coach the student to adapt effective school & study habits. I am generally knowledgeable about test-taking accommodations that schools and testing institutions are required to provide students with ADD.
For a decade, I have tutored students diagnosed with dyslexia. Brain science in the last 20 years has revealed much about the brain and learning processes,including reading and dyslexia. Research in the field of reading has proven that multi-sensory learning is THE answer to dyslexia. Three prominent and successful systems of multi-sensory learning are Lindmood-Bell, Orton-Gillingham, and the Wilson Approach. I have had much success using with my students the Lindamood System of Phonemic Awareness for the "decoding" stage of reading and "Visualizing/Verbalizing for Reading Comprehension, memory, and writing.
