I have been tutoring students of varying ages and skill level for the past ten years, in addition to coaching and instructing both young people and adults in a variety of activities. I have always enjoyed academia and relish in the opportunity to help others, be it students, peers, or my elders, develop and hone new skills.
My tutoring experience includes acting as an SAT (Math, Verbal, and Writing) Instructor for Kaplan, Inc., tutoring high school students in several subjects of math (mainly Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 & 2), assisting elementary-aged students in general studies and homework help, and tutoring my classmates in history and professional writing/proof-reading while I was in college. I've also worked as a counselor, sports coach, and sailing instructor at a Texas summer camp for the past three summers, and I current serve as a re-building volunteer in New Orleans, a role in which I interact with visiting volunteers from age 16 to 80 and instruct them in general construction, carpentry, and painting skills.
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Architecture and a B.A. in Philosophy in the spring of 2010. I am well-versed in Adobe Design Software (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and can instruct and assist with those programs, in addition to drawing, sketching, and drafting (hand and computer). My Philosophy background also gives me experience with analytical thinking, reading, and writing, and I am happy to tutor in areas involving those as well.
My past instructors, fellow educators, and students, have told me I am very relatable and connect easily with my students. I aim to create an easy-going environment that presents material from the student's perspective and identifies the misunderstanding in a concept rather than in a particular problem. I enjoying helping young people achieve their academic goals and look forward to assisting you or your student!
