I am a college graduate and academic who has experience tutoring Algebra, lower math, Spelling, and Grammar to children and college students from all walks of life. I have professional training in youth ministry. In high school, my grade point average was 3.6 on a 4.0 scale and I graduated 4th in my class. In college, my grade point average was 3.4 on a 4.0 scale and I graduated with honors. I am currently pursuing my second Bachelor's degree at McNeese State University.

I keep my studies current through reading, writing, and checking what is happening in the schools. I also have three years of experience substitute teaching for the Calcasieu Parish School Board.

I make tutoring both educational and fun. My tutoring is not like sitting in a classroom and being bored, but engages the student in his or her interests. I know how to get on the level of the student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I made a 26 on my ACT and the English section was my best section. I graduated from McNeese State University with a Bachelor's Degree concentrating in Mass Communications and minoring in Theater. English, grammar, and composition were important parts of my major and minor and I also spent a lot of time with the literary crowd adoring English and writing. I still read and write to this day.

Algebra 1

I took Pre-Algebra in 7th grade. I took Algebra in 8th grade. I was one of two people to score 100% on the test that allowed students to skip Algebra I in high school and go straight to Geometry.

I've kept up my Algebra studies ever since and I love tutoring Algebra on a one-on-one basis.

Cooking

I have been cooking since 1990. I can help with learning measurements, equivalents, and food substitutions. I grew up Cajun and Lutheran, both traditions that love to cook. I know good food and good cooking. I also know that cooking is both a science and an art.

General Music

I started learning music in kindergarten and we had music classes through 4th grade. I continued learning music beyond 4th grade by continuing to learn music in church, which was a Lutheran church, so rich in the tradition of music. I also was in the community children's choir. I have learned music through the Kodaly system.

Theatre

I took theater for two years in high school. I then minored in theater when I was in college. I did acting before that, too. I've been involved in theater in some way since the early 1990s.

Voice (Music)

Since 1992, I have been tutored under teachers who taught me how to sing using the Kodaly method. I still sing today.

It can be difficult for people to find and identify prepositions. A preposition usually tells something about an object in relation to another object. In the sentence, "The books is near the fireplace," the word "near" is the preposition and the word "fireplace" is the object of the preposition. In the sentence, "The leaf fell through the branches," the... read more

Most people understand how to work a problem like the following: The normal price of a camera is $150. However, during Saturday's sale, the camera will be discounted by 30%. What will be the price of the camera on Saturday? The first step is the price times the percentage that will be taken off of the price. Thus, the problem is $150*.30. The answer to that is $45. WyzAnt has asked if I would be willing to write helpful content for tutoring. As long as I understand what I am writing, I love to help people. Writing about these subjects would be a wonderful experience for me. However, I cannot promise writing on a regular basis. I have a busy life and need to take care of things. I would be glad to help, though.
