I love to have fun and I love to learn. To put it simply, I love to have fun learning.

My education/professional background is varied. I have a degree in elementary education from Centenary College of Louisiana. During college I spent a summer working with learning different and emotionally disabled children and tutored with the CLEAR program on the Centenary Campus. After college I have been an assistant preschool teacher, a computer teacher for grades K-8 at a private school in Kansas City, KS and a governess for three boys in grades 1, 2, and 6. Since moving back to Bossier I have been working as a substitute teacher for the Bossier Parish school system and as a preschool teacher at a local day care. I currently work for an Autism program providing in home intervention.

I am currently available for evening and morning tutoring.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my elementary education degree from Centenary College. I love teaching math and reading skills and have found my biggest successes in working with elementary students in math. I believe in multisensory instruction whenever possible.

Study Skills

I have a history of working with students in order to help them get the most out of what they are studying. I used whatever resources best work for that child: binder/folder organization, work boxes, visual organizers for content area information, outlines, notecards, etc. I also work with students on the skills needed to use such organizers such as scanning/skimming, dictionary skills, and research skills (both online and paper based).

Special Needs

I have worked with special needs students both as a teacher and a camp counselor. My experience has included students with both learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disabilities. When I tutor special needs students, I tailor their curriculum to their learning styles and target the gaps in previous learning that are currently affecting academic progress.

ESL/ESOL

I use the Wilson Reading System to work with English Language Learners who can speak and understand spoken English but have difficulty with written English. Language learners are assessed before beginning instruction and periodically through out instruction. Lesson plans are individually written to target problem areas for each learner.

Social Studies

I have experience with elementary and middle school level social studies instruction and tutoring. I am able to help with geography, and US and world history topics.
