Besides teaching at Indiana University Southeast, the Purdue School of Technology at New Albany, and Webster University, I have also taught ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT test preparation for Kaplan Learning Systems. To qualify to test these subjects for Kaplan I had to have very high scores myself on those exams. So I know how to prepare for standardized tests and what it takes to get great scores.

I have many years of teaching and tutoring, and over those years I've developed strategies and techniques to help students succeed. I am an active member at Southeast Christian Church's Elementary Ministry, and have a thorough background check on file that is updated annually.

My undergraduate degree is in Mathematics and my MBA from the University of Louisville. My PhD in Information Systems coursework was completed at the University of Kentucky.

In addition, I have made it a point to focus a great deal of attention to the analysis of the outcomes from the statistical tests and applications/decision-making in real-world settings.

Business

Have completed my MBA

College Counseling

Over the years I have advised many, many of my students as to the best application of their skills and interests. This has included advising students on the selection of appropriate majors, navigation through the registration process, and identification of internship opportunities and career counseling.

In addition, because of my familiarity with the higher education system and college test preparation experience, I have been asked by many of my friends and relatives to advise their children on the college application process.

Computer Science

I teach several introduction to computers and information systems at Indiana University Southeast, and I have over 20 years of IT experience, from system analysis to database design to programming, to serving as a project manager for ERP systems at a Fortune 500 company.

Discrete Math

I have a BS in Mathematics from the University of Louisville and years of teaching mathematics and mathematics-related courses. I have successfully tutored in discrete mathematics in the past at both the high school and college levels.

Econometrics

Econometrics is the application of statistical and mathematical techniques to the field of economics. I have years of teaching experience statistics and economics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

I have a solid understanding of economic theories which are tested by analyzing data in the search for confirmation or refutation of those theories in different contexts.

Finite Math

I have more than two decades of tutoring experience, and more than a decade of teaching experience at the university level.

For several years I've taught review sessions for students who may have taken finite or discrete math in high school or earlier in their college careers but needed a refresher before advancing to the classes that I typically teach: statistics, Excel, operations, and project management.

I typically cover probability, statistics, linear programming concepts, combinatorics, and basic mathematical logic.

General Computer

I have over 30 years of IT experience, ranging from computer hardware repair and PC and Mac troubleshooting to project management of ERP systems. In addition to my professional experience, I have taught general computer and information systems courses at the college level.

GMAT

In order to qualify to teach GMAT courses at Kaplan, I was required to score in the upper 95th percentile or above, so I know what it takes to score well on the GMAT.

Not only did I teach GMAT courses for Kaplan, I was promoted to Teacher Trainer where my responsibilities included not only teaching GMAT courses, but I also trained new Kaplan instructors to improve their teaching effectiveness.

HTML

I have many years of web development experience and currently teach HTML5 and CSS at the university level.

Linear Algebra

I have taken several semester-long courses on linear algebra at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I have also used the knowledge gained in those courses in applied settings to determine optimization solutions in several business settings.

There are numerous applications of linear algebra in a host of disciplines, but all fundamentally apply the concepts of matrices of linear equations learned at the most basic levels of linear algebra classes.

Logic

I have taken several undergraduate and graduate-level logic classes, and I've applied those lessons as a computer programmer.

As a math major, I found the logical processes and problem-solving approach to my logic classes to be similar to those used to solve complex mathematical equations.

With my years of teaching and tutoring experience, I'm certain that I can guide you to a deeper understanding of logical concepts.

Macintosh

I have over 15 years of experience working with the MacOS, ranging from the earliest Mac to the latest Intel-based products. I have developed programs geared toward Mac users and have taught on Macs in my computer-related classes for the last 5 years. In addition, I can help students take advantage of some of the advanced features of the current OS series because of the UNIX system features that are just under the skin of the beautiful and functional Apple interface.

MATLAB

I first became aware of MATLAB back when I was an undergraduate mathematics student. Back then it was a fraction of what it is today, and it is easier to use today than ever. The command line interface has been replaced with a great GUI, and its capabilities have grown enormously.

I've used MATLAB in seminars and demonstrations in statistics classes to show the possibilities of the software, and I'm sure that I can apply my history and familiarity with the product to help you achieve your MATLAB learning goals.

Microsoft Access

I have frequently taught K201 (The Computer in Business) at Indiana University Southeast, and we spend approximately 1/3 of the class covering database competency using MS Access. I also have years of database design and DBA experience.

I also teach information systems and programming courses at Indiana University Southeast and Purdue University.

Public Speaking

I am an adjunct professor, so speaking in front of groups from 4 to 90+ is a typical weekly event.

I have advised local business leaders, politicians, and newer faculty on speaking effectiveness.

Python

I have recently completed a stint completing a Python training project for an area employer, in which I held customized, in-house training for a group of analysts whose job responsibilities were shifting to programmer-analysts.

I'm also familiar with a number of other programming languages, and once you know one the others aren't hard to pick up. My PhD in Information Systems coursework was completed at the University of Kentucky.

SAS

I have completed the coursework to obtain a graduate certificates in applied statistics from the University of Kentucky. SAS was the primary tool used in the computational courses in that program.

I am also certified in SPSS, which is a different statistical analysis tool that performs functions similar to that of SAS.

I have years of experience teaching statistics, business statistics, and health/biostatistics. Beyond the concepts, I have taught students how to use the software that makes the previously calculation-intensive subjects much easier.

In addition, I have used STATA when conducting research/analyzing data for the purposes of conducting research or consulting. In addition, I have advised several students seeking to resolve "incomplete" grades on how best to use STATA to satisfy their degree requirements.

Statistics

Besides having a solid background and interest in mathematics, I have completed several graduate-level statistics and data mining courses.

I also have a passion for data and helping others to understand how to use data to make better decisions. I've helped many MBA and PhD students gain a stronger understanding of the theory and application of statistical concepts. Not just get better grades, but to change their relationship with statistics.

Study Skills

I have navigated our educational systems from kindergarten to PhD courses, and over the time I've learned time management and study skills. Besides my own years of practice, I've attended numerous seminars on effective study skills and how to impart those to students in the classroom.

I also have two girls who are successful academically, and so I am familiar with many issues that affect children and the changing expectation of their study skills development over time.
