American History

I have an undergraduate minor in history with a concentration in American history and American political development. In addition, I have taken nine hours of American history classes at the graduate level plus one hour in historical research methods.

Government & Politics

I have a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Louisville as well as a master's degree in political science from the University of Louisville. My research area is American government and politics with an emphasis in constitutional theory and institutional behavior. Although my interest and training is in American politics I am also familiar with comparative political techniques.

Literature

I have taken numerous literature classes in my time at the University of Louisville. I have the most experience with 19th century fiction however, I am also well versed in 20th century fiction.

Reading

Much of my work requires reading and analyzing difficult academic texts. I am able to read a book or journal article and find the argument (or thesis) and the evidence the author uses to support his/her assertions.

Social Studies

I have a master's degree in political science from the University of Louisville. I also have experience (primarily in my undergraduate training) in the humanities, history, and sociology.

Writing

Much of my work involves writing very long papers. I have been trained to structure a paper, create an argument, include a review of previous scholarship in the area I am researching, and include my own analysis of evidence to support my arguments.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
