I am an experienced, certified professional educator with 11 years teaching in six Kansas public and private school districts as well as two years instructing English as a Second Language in a Japanese public school. In addition, I have been a preschool through high school substitute teacher in Kansas and Missouri public schools for over 4 years, taught summer school three years in the States and Japan, and between 1997 and 2009 I was nominated by staff or parents for the Crystal Apple Award between two inner city schools receiving the award in November 1997. My numerous other qualifications including a current FBI background check will be provided in a Parent Information Packet which I provide to all my clients.
As a teacher, my strengths have always been working one-on-one or with small groups of students to remediate academic deficits mainly in math and reading. My teaching experience has involved working with and creating solutions for students with disabilities, developmental delays, and terminal illness. My career has encompassed anything BUT being an average teacher! Having taught a variety of grade levels and in different classroom, situations have provided me with insights far beyond the realm of the regular classroom.
Healthy snacks/beverages are included with each tutoring session and a privilege ticket system is used to teach students how to earn, spend, save, and give. Once I have a client's educational information, a specific plan to achieve remediation will be developed and presented to the parents. Consistent communication with parents concerning a student's progress is a must! I hope to be of service to you soon!
