I pride myself in having excellent communication skills and attention to detail. My grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are excellent, as is my spelling. Having worked in education for more than 33 years, it is important to me that students have access to the tools they need to successfully learn.
My husband and I raised our two children and are proud of the fact that they both have the necessary skills to succeed in life. When helping them with their homework, I also taught them critical thinking skills and showed them how to search for answers on their own. In this way, they were able to figure things out for themselves.
I worked as a para-professional in a special education classroom for 3 years. During that time, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with the students or in small groups. In that classroom, also, I tried to teach them to be able to find the answers themselves, when appropriate. I believe that as a tutor, I would have the ability to adjust lessons to the students' learning styles, thus improving their ability to learn the materials more quickly.
At the university, I have conducted many one-on-one and group training sessions in using various software packages. I also have mentored numerous students through the years.
Basically, I don't feel one should spoon feed students, but I also don't think one should allow them to become frustrated with the learning process.
