Dear Students,

I have a Bachelor's degree in History working on certification of Paralegal studies. Over my time at Indiana University, I have completed various essays and interpretations of historical fact. I have a firm grasp on how to write with proper grammar and vocabulary and look forward to teaching you the same. My tutoring style is informal but professional. I feel like a relaxed student is more readily willing to engage in thought and understanding if stress is not a major factor. I have also helped classmates and friends understand concepts from various different historical texts and placed them into simple English. I am very prompt and reliable. When I set a date and time with you, you can expect that I will arrive at that time and will inform you of any circumstances that may cause cancellation or tardiness ahead of time.
My personality is soft voiced and relaxed. I prefer to work with you rather than at you. By the end of a tutoring session, my plan is to not only have your student memorize facts, but also think and comprehend the meaning behind them. A world with thinkers plans better strategy in life than fact regurgitators. I look forward to meeting with your student and helping them gain a valuable education they can use for the rest of their life.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a high school diploma and was privately educated in writing and reading English. I am also college educated on how to write and read and have a trained ear on different accents. I have helped many students understand ESL through sites such as lang-8 and livemocha.

Proofreading

I have proofread many papers. I have done so enough in my high school and college years to where I can show others the methods I use to read papers including the markings and how it sounds when reading the paper aloud. I feel reading aloud gives the reader the best opportunity of finding mistakes within their writing and allows them to be corrected.

Vocabulary

Being privately educated in high school, I have gained an extensive vocabulary. Spelling is one of the most important aspects of writing as it makes words understandable and keep the intended meaning. With my tutoring methods, I intend to train by phonics and writing. If a student knows how it sounds correctly, they are more likely to spell both by hearing and seeing.

World History

I have a BA in History. My focus in my Bachelor's Degree was in World history and Culture. My specific interest is in Medieval Europe, Asian Studies, and the various barbaric tribes of Medieval Europe.

Writing

My Bachelor's degree in History has given me plenty of practices on how to write and interpret. I have a working knowledge of the Subject-Verb-Direct Object standard as well as complex sentences. My tutoring methods include splitting the sentences into simple chunks to allow understanding of how each structure works. For example, I would explain subject, then verbs, then direct objects or prepositional phrases.
