I have four years of professional teaching experience at the university level (Purdue University Calumet), and have served in many informal teaching and tutoring positions. Currently, I am in my third year as a PhD student at the University of Chicago (in Political Science). I've earned an Indiana Educator License, and am completing my U of C teacher certification this summer. Though political science is my main area of concentration, I am qualified to teach a variety of other subjects due to my exceptional liberal arts education. Moreover, I provide assistance to individuals who need help with writing, test-taking, forming logical augments, and improving time management and study habits (on this last note, it is a testament to my own time management skills that I am simultaneously completing a PhD, teaching part-time, and raising a young son).

My teaching philosophy is a simple and traditional one: teach to each student the fundamentals of the arts and sciences, but foster in that student the desire to develop new strengths and new interests. If a student is told that only one way is the right way, then the teacher is both incorrect and stifling. A student must be taught the foundations, and of their importance, but must also be taught to think for him or herself. When students are so guided, they are provided with the tools necessary to understand the world better--instead of fearing it, they will embrace it and pursue knowledge about it.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Political Science

I have been teaching courses in political science at the university level for 4 years. These courses range from 100-level introduction courses to 200-level courses on US foreign policy. Currently, I am in my third year of the political science PhD program at the University of Chicago. For this university, I have served as teaching assistant for multiple courses throughout this last year, and am currently enrolled in a teaching certification program. I hold 2 MAs in political science, and also have an Indiana Educator License to teach this and similar subjects.

Social Studies

I hold an MA in politics and a BA in both history and political science. I've also tutored in these subjects, and have taught political science at Purdue University Calumet for three years. For the primary course that I teach, Introduction to Government, I introduce a variety of topics including American history, philosophy, culture, geography and world history in general.
