I am a young, energetic college-grad and experienced tutor looking to work with students in the Hanover/Lebanon/Hartford areas. Having grown up as a native English-speaker living in Japan, I am well-versed in assisting students learning English as a second language--especially in speaking confidence and reading comprehension.

As a former middle school classroom instructor, study center intern, and private tutor, I am experienced in assisting middle school students in all subjects. However, my passion lies in English literature and language arts, both of which I am adept at teaching across all age and learning levels. I hold a BA in English Literature from Kenyon College and am in the process of acquiring my MA in Teaching with a focus on middle and high school English.

My rates are negotiable depending upon the needs of each student.

Vocabulary

As a voracious reader, a former writing tutor, and an English literature major, I have a wide and varied vocabulary. As a student, I used to fill notebooks with unfamiliar words I came across in my readings.

Grammar

I have worked as a writing tutor at a collegiate level and hold a certificate in publishing from the University of Denver Publishing Institute. I am well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style and MLA citations.

Reading

I have a BA in English literature, am a voracious reader, and have served as a private, reading comprehension tutor for students ranging from age seven through fifteen.

Writing

I was a former writing tutor for the Kenyon College Writing Center.

English

I have a BA in English literature and received a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam.

ESL/ESOL

As a former resident of Japan, I have experience in assisting ESL elementary and middle school students in developing their English-speaking ability and reading comprehension. As a former writing tutor, I am experienced in assisting ESL strengthen their essay-writing abilities at a college level.

I have a BA in English literature from Kenyon College.

Proofreading

I have a certificate in publishing from the University of Denver Publishing Institute, which involved rigorous proofreading training.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a current substitute teacher for St. Thomas More School, I have experience working with students ranging from grades PK through 8th.
