Math and science were my favorite subjects throughout my formal schooling and I can help any student improve their knowledge in these courses by helping them enjoy the subjects rather than be intimidated by them.

What are my credentials? I have a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MS in Mechanical Engineering and as a result I've taken many courses in math and science, the basis of engineering.

How long have I been tutoring? I have tutored for over 30 years, at the start finding students in a "word of mouth" manner from friends of the family, work associates and others. While in graduate school at Notre Dame I worked for the athletic department as a tutor for their engineering student-athletes. In addition to tutoring, I have taught several engineering courses at the college level and for the past 15 years I have coached youth baseball, which is a different sort of teaching from the classroom, but still involves guiding young people with a goal of improving themselves.

How will I help, will I do your homework? Doing your homework for you does you no good in the long run. I will guide you through your homework using examples that are similar to your homework in order to reinforce the concepts your instructor is trying to teach. Along the way, I will ask you questions as a way of testing your understanding. These tactics will help you when examination time comes as you will have seen many more examples of relevant questions giving you a broader base of knowledge and more confidence in attacking new problems. I can also create practice exams for you to work under test conditions in order for you to improve your test taking skills.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and can improve your knowledge of math or science, improve your test taking skills and improve your confidence so you can take on more and more challenging subjects with ease.

I contacted George because I wanted one on one tutoring for my son as he transitioned from high school to college. I had heard about the difficulty of the Physics course. George has been a terrific resource. I appreciate his specific feedback after each lesson. He has the same sense of pride when tutoring. He is readily available with a flexible schedule. We are very lucky to have found him.

George is helping my daughter better comprehend the physics material for her AP class. She says that he is patient, thorough, and he does a great job communicating to me about her progress and the material they are covering. He confirms each upcoming tutoring session, is always prepared, is easily reachable, and provides an informative review to me about each session.

I met with George R. for the first time and I learned really quickly that he was the tutor I have been searching for. He is very informative and very passionate about tutoring, very pleased thus far.

Math:

ACT Math,
Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Preparing for SAT/ACT math tests involves covering several subjects within the field of math. I can tutor you at any level of math from Pre-algebra to Calculus. If you need to brush up on math skills that you may not have used recently, I can help you.

Algebra is often the first math course a student takes that they exclaim "I just don't get it". Algebra involves nothing new mathematically, just adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. It is essentially a method of logical steps to find an answer. It CAN be a fun course. It CAN be very useful in everyday life, not just for the math aspect, but for learning how to think through problems in a logical way.

As with Algebra 1, I can help you get a better grasp of the concepts of Algebra 2, leading to understanding instead of confusion. We will start with simple problems that you can relate to and as you gain confidence in your abilities, move on to more and more complicated problems.

Mastery of calculus opens the door to many fields such as physics, engineering, business and medicine. My engineering background gives me a deep understanding of calculus and how it is used to solve real world problems. Some calculus problems can be solved exactly and others require the use of a computer to estimate a solution. I have used both methods to answer calculus questions and can help you with either method.

To study engineering it is essential to master the subject of differential equations. With multiple post-graduate engineering degrees, it is not surprising that I have taken many hours of math at the undergraduate and graduate level. These math courses included the study of Differential Equations and Partial Differential Equations. Many of the engineering courses I studied required the ability to solve ODEs and PDEs using manual and computational techniques.

Geometry is often one of the first courses a high school student takes that involves the use of logic and proofs and can be intimidating at first. Geometry builds from the simple to more complex proofs to solve more and more difficult problems. If you are struggling to understand the basics or the more complex problems, I am confident that we can work together to boost your understanding and your grades!

I have taken many hours of math coursework at the undergraduate and graduate level while studying engineering. Linear Algebra was one of the required courses for completing an undergraduate degree. After learning the theory behind linear algebra, I used the knowledge to solve engineering problems, using both manual and computational techniques, in several other courses such as dynamical systems, vibrations, systems control and computer graphics.

As an elective for my undergraduate engineering course requirements I chose a course in logic to enhance my computer programming skills. Boolean and modal logic are both used in creating software that functions properly. I have been programming in various computer languages on various computer systems since 1980.

I have a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MS in Mechanical Engineering (PhD ABD). I have taught and tutored at the college level while working on my graduate degrees in both Aeronautical and Mechanical engineering. Courses taught include Statics, Thermodynamics, and Wind Tunnel Testing Methods. I have tutored Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics.

Physics is at the core of science and engineering. If you need help with high school or college level physics, you've come to the right place. My 30+ years of experience solving physics problems will get you headed in the right direction.

The more math subjects you master, the more job opportunities you will be able to handle. I can help you master any level of math. If you are having difficulties with your Prealgebra course work, it is never too soon to get the help you need to excel.

I can help you master the skills to be successful in your Precalculus course. My engineering background gives me a deep understanding of all math subjects, but especially calculus and precalculus courses. If you intend to move on from precalculus to calculus, I can continue tutoring you as you move up the math food chain!

Preparing for the SAT math test involves covering several subjects within the field of mathematics. I can tutor you at any level of math from Pre-algebra to Calculus. If you need to brush up on math skills that you may not have used recently or introduce you to subjects that you have not taken, I can work with you to maximize your score on the math portion of your SAT.

I can help you master the skills to be successful in your Trigonometry course. My engineering background gives me a deep understanding of all math subjects, but especially calculus and precalculus courses such as trigonometry. If you intend to move on from trigonometry to precalculus or even calculus, I can continue tutoring you as you continue learning higher levels of math.

Simplify the Expression (answer)

Natalie, To simplify the given expression requires us to combine coefficients of x where x has a similar exponent. Starting with ( 4x3 + 2x2 - 5 ) - ( -3x2 + 8 ) First, let's get rid of the minus sign in the middle by distributing it across the last term's elements...
