My name is Justin and I've been a math teacher since 2006. I love working with my students. Though I don't get paid much, I find my job extremely rewarding. My favorite areas of math to teach range from middle school levels through Algebra; however, I'm very comfortable helping with ANY mathematical topic. I'm also very comfortable with computer software questions. I also tutor for a local company where I've been certified to teach middle-level reading.

As far as who I am, I'm a husband (married 7/7/7), a father (daughter born 1/1/11), and a geek. I love technology, Star Wars, baseball, and bowling. When I have free time, I'm usually in front of the computer or behind a good book. I'm constantly trying to stay busy.

Algebra 1

I love Algebra! It's fun to teach because there are so many ways to do most problems. I've spent a lot of time in the past year getting to know what students need to know for the ECA. The majority of my students passed because they were very prepared and knew exactly what to expect.

Algebra 2

I have taught math023, math035, and math043 at Ivy Tech Community College. These classes are sub-100 level because they aren't at the "college" level. These basically cover middle school through parts of pre-calculus. I also aced the Algebra 2 test on here :).

Microsoft Word

I have used all versions of Word. I've just started in Office 2013 but I'm comfortable with all versions, especially 2007 and up. I love to make boring documents POP! I'm also pretty good at making "databases" using the developer tools provided.

Prealgebra

I have taught middle school math [all levels], Algebra 1, Algebra 1A, Fundamentals of Algebra, Math023, Math035, and Math043. I have studied the common core standards and the Algebra 1 ECA extensively.

Elementary Math

My teaching license is 6-12 but I also got extremely high scores on my Praxis I test which covered elementary math. I also taught math at Learning Centers to students aged 5 to 18 [and some adult learners as well]. I work with my the elementary in my district to ensure learning benchmarks are being hit.

Elementary (K-6th)

Though my license is for 6th to 12th grade, I'm extremely comfortable with the earlier grades. I tutor at a local establishment and have been certified in "essential math", which services kindergarten to eight grade. I also have been certified in "academic reading".

Phonics

As a teacher, I have to pass tests and classes but a lot of that information fades away. I had to get qualified to teach reading at a Learning Center so I'm confident in my phonics skills. It doesn't hurt that my wife is an elementary teacher and we have a 2-year old daughter who we are teaching to read.

Study Skills

As a middle school through college teacher, I know what it takes to succeed in school and life. I worked at Learning Centers and was qualified to teach the study skills class. I've worked with students on how to become better students both individually and in groups.

Microsoft Outlook

Just as with Microsoft Office, I'm familiar with it's components. I use Outlook on a daily basis. I'm fine with adding multiple accounts and adding RSS feeds. No problem!

Microsoft Windows

I'm very comfortable using all versions of Windows. Troubleshooting software issues, removing malware and adware, and installing new hardware are all topics I feel comfortable with.
