I have been a TA (as an instructor) at Purdue for two years.
As a teacher, I think the most important thing is not just solving the specific problem, it is more about teaching your students the methods of how to solve problems. In the long run, he/she can solve the problems of the same category by him/herself.
First, you should always give your students encouragement.
Second, being very patient and nice are very important too. My students always tell me that I am a very nice person and have a lot of patience.
Third, putting myself in a student's perspective will always help me find out the most effective way to teach them.
