I have taught and tutored organic chemistry for several years and have worked as a practicing chemist in the field of organic chemistry for 20 years. In addition I am a licensed chemistry teacher in the state of Indiana, having completed my student teaching in a college prep chemistry classroom. I was a mathematics minor in college and this has proven helpful in teaching chemistry.
Chemistry can be a challenging subject for many students but, once mastered, it can be fun. My goal as an instructor is to help students understand how chemistry relates to their lives since introductory courses can be boring and challenging.
My goal in teaching chemistry is for students to understand the "why" aspect of the subject instead of simply memorizing facts. If students understand how it works, they can apply that knowledge to similar problems and solve them, which leads to fewer mistakes on quizzes and exams.
