My name is James and I am a math tutor who is looking to tutor young students in all areas of mathematics including test prep. Some special skills that I have acquired through my life include being very responsible, organized, helpful, working very well with young kids, teaching, and being a good team player. As far as community service/volunteer work, I participated outside of school in community events with my school choir singing at the Sherman Oaks Street Fair, senior homes, playing piano for senior citizens, playing in jazz bands for school and going outside of school on weekends, donated some clothes to the Red Cross and Goodwill and much more. I also have gone back to my middle school periodically and have helped my math teacher organize her work, grade papers for her, and help tutor her students after school. In terms of work experience, besides tutoring I was playing at the First Baptist Church of Granada Hills, playing hymns and soft music every Sunday. I enjoy tutoring and I want to continue it throughout college and my life.

I am currently working with a mother who has a 13 year old daughter who needs helping and guiding in Algebra 1. I have been working for them for about a month now and already, her improvement has shown. Also, in my current high school, I am tutoring a junior in Algebra 2 needing to get caught up and getting him ready for his tests. I enjoy tutoring and working with students in math, considering it is my favorite subject and I have had experience in tutoring for 8 years. I will be graduating this year and will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in mathematics and I hope the more I tutor students, the more I will enjoy it and continue to do it. While I am in college, I want to continue tutoring students in math and also a variety of other subjects that students need help with because I am the kind of person who wants to help and do whatever it takes for a student to be successful. I love math and tutoring.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have taken the ACT twice and scored a 21 overall. I am very good with tutoring students with special needs and disabilities. I have tutored in English and taught grammar, conventions, spelling, reading, and writing skills. I enjoy English and it is not just a language, it is something that we need to have to improve the well-being of society for education

Algebra 1

I have done tutoring for Algebra 1 in and out of school and am currently tutoring an 8th grader in Algebra to get her ready for tests and catch up on assignments and organize her work. I have also tutored in this subject at my middle school after school for community service. I also taught this subject with special needs students.

Algebra 2

I am currently tutoring a high school junior in Algebra 2 and am helping him get ready for upcoming tests and catching up on Assignments.

I also am tutoring in this subject under the California Scholarship Federation for tutoring hours with students in my high school who need help with this subject.

American History

I have tutored for numerous subjects since I was in junior high. I tutored at my middle school after school and took AP U.S. History and got A's in the class. I love history

Chemistry

I have tutored Chemistry in school for volunteer hours under the California Scholarship Federation and even went to my old high school and helped my Chem teacher with other students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been working at Boys and Girls Club of Huntington County with students of all ages and have tutored them in all academic subjects. My methods include helping them with homework, looking at their past homework and using it as tools to study with them for upcoming assessments. I enjoy working with kids and love nurturing them and teaching and mentoring them from my experiences

Music History

I am a musician and pianist who is pursuing a Bachelor's of Music Degree in Piano Performance. I have a lot of experience with Music Theory and Music History. I have passed the Certificate of Merit Level 7 Theory and History Exam and piano proficiency. I have taken numerous classes in music history and theory. When I was in freshman and sophomore year, I had a Music History and Theory Class and in junior year I took a Music History and Literature Class where we researched composers and took tests and wrote papers on them.

Piano

I am a musician and pianist. I have been playing piano for 13 years, I am classically trained with great ear training, aural skills, and perfect pitch and great theory skills. My sight-reading is pretty good but I have always wanted to have my own students and teach them all I know. I love the piano and it is my first-choice major as a BM in Piano Performance.

Prealgebra

I tutored in PreAlgebra and Algebra at my middle school after school 2-3 times a week for community service. I tutored a student with special needs in PreAlgebra and Algebra and career development. Currently, I'm working with an 8th grader who is struggling with Algebra and needs to get caught up in her work and do better on tests and quizzes.

SAT Math

I tutored test prep to students in the California Scholarship Federation. I tutored students part-time in groups of five for PSAT and SAT. I passed the SAT and ACT with great test scores for college.
I graduated in June, 2013 with a 3.94 and academic achievement in mathematics.
