Mathematics is a dying art in today’s America. High school students are graduating with the ability to balance their check book and nothing more. I believe that this is unacceptable and these students need to know more than just the four basic operations of math. If high school students can not grasp the basic concepts of Algebra, I feel that their problem solving skills are not developed enough to face the real world problems that the working life has in store for them.
Being a tutor in mathematics it is my belief that I can help America’s future by having well educated, problem solving citizens. I know from experience that some math teachers will present the information and expect the students to instantly understand the material. Unfortunately that does not happen often. I have also experienced what it is like to teach young minds. Since have been a middle school wrestling coach I have seen true confusion in young kids, but I have been able to simplify the most abstract ideas, and show step by step how things work. I know that my technique is not perfect but it gets better everyday because I have the ability to see what works with these young kids and what makes them more confused. Therefore, my ability to adapt to different learning curves will be a great asset when I am a teacher. I will be able to teach every student to his or her potential.
Throughout my college career I was involved in an internship through Northern Illinois University where I helped tutor students in the local high school; as well as several local students. Through those experiences I have seen many different types of students with many different types of issues with math; and for the most part helped them through their struggles to have a successful math experience.

Good communication and patient — We finally made it to the end of the year. Matt worked with my son who was a senior in high school taking precalculus. Many thanks to Matt for his great communication, always on time even in bad winter weather. With Matt's help, my son brought his grade up from a low D to a solid B for his final grade. His test scores improved even more. We would highly recommend Matt as we will also be using his ...
