My name is Aparna, and I'm an experienced and qualified math
, and SAT prep
tutor. If you are looking for someone who is dedicated, creative, and passionate about her students' success, then I may be the perfect tutor for you!
I am currently a Ph.D. student and Associate Instructor at the Kelley School of Business
, Indiana University. Prior to starting my Ph.D., I completed my master's degree in Economics
from Boston University and worked for two years as an economic analyst. As a high school salutatorian and recipient of the prestigious Trustee Scholarship at Boston University, I have personally experienced the joys that academic success can bring to one's life, and I look forward to passing this joy on to others. I believe that I possess two qualities that make me an effective tutor: 1.) a strong grasp on the academic material I teach, and 2.) the ability to effectively communicate and explain concepts to my students.
I have a confident and thorough understanding of all the subjects that I teach. I was fortunate to receive a fantastic education and was an "A" student throughout my academic life. I received a perfect GRE
score, my SAT
score was in the 99th percentile, and I graduated among the top in my class in high school as well as college. Along my academic journey, I picked up valuable study skills
and tactics, which I pass on to my students.
In addition to my own academic strengths, I have significant experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school students. Most of my experience is in one-on-one tutoring for various math subjects (algebra
, and pre-calculus
) as well as SAT and test prep.
I am also a certified instructor in the art
of Kenpo Karate, which I believe adds a unique dimension to my teaching techniques. My 4 years of experience teaching karate has provided me with valuable coaching and interpersonal skills. Over the years, I have taught 150 students, ages 4 to adult and also trained 6 new assistant instructors. I understand how to inspire and motivate students to do their best, something which has helped me tremendously as a tutor.
In general, I favor a "concept-based" teaching approach. In my tutoring sessions, I first explain a concept and then drill that concept in through dozens of examples and practice problems. They say that practice makes perfect, and when it comes to learning something like math, grammar
, or SAT prep, this could not be more true. In my experience, one-on-one tutoring is the best way to learn a subject, as the teacher can explain concepts in a way that makes sense to the student. I firmly believe that everyone has the skills and capacity to be successful academically; it's just a matter of finding a method that works for you. I therefore customize my teaching approach to the needs and interests of my students. I am thoroughly invested in my students, and I go above and beyond to make sure that they are successful.
I look forward to hearing from you!
