I so enjoy working with students one on one and seeing their growth and "aha" moments when they understand a concept or come to the realization that they "CAN" read or perform math skills that once frustrated them. A big part of what I do during tutoring sessions is build the student's confidence level. So many children need lots of encouragement to believe they can do something. I use lots of hands on tools and truly believe that all students learn differently. The key is unlocking the method that best works for them.
I retired in 2011 after 35 years of teaching, most years spent in first grade, but also taught second grade and Special Education and Learning Disabilities. I have been trained in Reading Recovery, a program that's designed to help non readers become readers using reading strategies. I would like to tutor your child in my home or at the public library. I presently tutor 2 children in the Concord district and would be glad to give you references.
Sincerely,
Viki P.
