Hi there! My name is Lindsey. I am currently enrolled full-time at IPFW. I am a chemistry/pre-med major. I am expecting to graduate in the spring of 2014. I graduated and received an academic honors diploma from Leo High School in 2010. I took AP classes in high school and graduated early with a 3.75 GPA. I am good with most subjects, but math and science are where I really shine. Algebra in particular is my favorite subject to tutor. I am patient and understanding when it comes to helping others. I try to think of ways to apply problems to the student personally to help them gain a better understanding of the material. I am smart and innovative so it is not difficult for me to come up with multiple teaching methods and apply the one that best fits each student. I enjoy tutoring because I firmly believe that the best way to learn is to teach. Not only do I get the pleasure of helping others better understand difficult subjects, but I personally get the opportunity to expand my own knowledge base.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have always excelled at math. I took Algebra I as a seventh grader and got an A in the class. Algebra is one of my favorite subjects to tutor. It drills in the fundamentals for every higher math class that may be encountered. I think it is important to gain a clear and deep understanding of these fundamentals and I love to be the one to help others do this!

Chemistry

Chemistry was one of my favorite subjects in high school and I have gone on to appreciate it further as a Chemistry major in college. While it can be challenging, chemistry is important and can be very exciting. By studying Chemistry you learn what things are made of and how. Chemistry explains the world around you from the most basic elements and compounds to extremely complicated experiments and reactions. Chemistry is involved in many areas of life ranging from cooking to medicine and beyond. Chemistry is fun to learn and even more fun to teach. I love tutoring Chemistry because it is one of the few subjects that kids can easily get excited about. It is extremely interesting and changes on a daily basis. I think my love of chemistry allows me to be a better tutor on the subject than other people, especially when I can get other people excited about it too!

A Keeper! — Lindsey has worked with my daughter three times now and continues to be a great source of homework help for my daughter, who struggles with geometry. She is patient and explains how to come to an answer and makes certain that my daughter understands the topic. They do a couple of homework problems together and then she has her do a couple alone before moving on. She is always on time and I woul ...
