I graduated in May 2012 with a degree in Speech Language Pathology. I attended college as a National Merit Scholar, made a 1430 on the GRE, was named the 2011 Truman Scholar from Mississippi, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I did focused work in the areas of special needs and Autism spectrum disorders. My ambition throughout college has been to help individuals reach their fullest potential.

I love to learn, and I love to teach. I have had experience tutoring in both formal and informal settings. I know what is effective and what is not from my experiences as a tutor and as a student. My tutoring specialties include standardized test preparation, language, grammar, study skills, and high school math. I know math through Calculus I, have taken advanced literature and history courses, and know biology, genetics, and anatomy and physiology well.

I believe that every student has the potential to excel, given the opportunity and proper instruction. Success depends on hard work, dedication, and the guidance of knowledgeable teachers or tutors. My goal is to help you hone your skills and reach your true potential.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I am an avid chess player, and have also had experience teaching chess to both children and adults. I am familiar not only with basic chess rules and moves, but also with logic and chess theory.

As a chess instructor, I focus on teaching strategic opening moves, offensive strategies, and techniques for closing games.

I believe that the regular practice of chess develops one's critical thinking, analytic skills, and understanding of cause and effect relationships.

Study Skills

Study and organizational skills are vital to success in school. I have consistently used proven study techniques through out my own schooling, and I have taught these skills to others, often with great success.

I focus particularly on teaching time management, organization strategies, techniques for improving material comprehension, memory aids, and techniques for dealing with test anxiety.

Mastering skills such as these can lead to significant improvements in a student's grades and confidence.

Very patient, thorough tutor — I've worked with Marie over the last couple of months on Algebra II schoolwork. My grade was in jeopardy and I needed a decent amount of help. My grade improved immensely over the time we met. It was evident to myself and the people around me that her tutoring was helping me. I went from failing to passing the class with a B. She was always on time and professional. She is also encouraging and she ...
