I have worked with different age groups of students (elementary and secondary to college and professional) in different capacities from mentoring and tutoring to consulting.
My undergraduate training is in chemistry-engineering and East Asian languages and literature, which includes a lot of chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics (from algebra to calculus) and foreign languages (Chinese, some Japanese and some German).
My undergraduate career also involved study abroad education: intensive Chinese language immersion program in Harbin, China; African economic development and African political economy in Accra, Ghana; Japanese studies and Japanese language in Kanazawa, Japan.
My graduate training is in biomedical engineering - (M.S. BME) and teaching Chinese as a foreign language - (M.A. TCFL)
BME biomedical engineering coursework includes engineering analysis, medical imaging, image processing, signal processing, cell and tissue interaction, biomaterials, biophysics, neural system behavior, cell and molecular engineering, entrepreneurship and financial economics. Master's project was completed in Developmental Neurolinguistics Laboratory at CUNY Graduate Center investigating speech processing of monolinguals and bilinguals using mismatch negativity analysis.
TCFL Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language includes Chinese linguistics, Chinese phonetics, Chinese semantics, Chinese pedagogical grammar, Chinese sociolinguistics, Reading development in Chinese as Second Language, Second Language Acquisition, Chinese as a Second Language research and applications, Designing Innovative classroom activities, principles and practices of TCEL, women in Chinese literature and society, and a cumulative teaching practicum.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I can explain Algebra in the simplest way that makes sense yet still applicable by connecting to real world problems and showing the application of the algebra in every day life.
I am currently in Middlebury College's Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Masters program and trained in pedagogical grammar, phonetics, semantics, linguistics, literature and multimedia technology approach to language teaching.
I also have Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Literatures with Chinese Emphasis from Washington and Lee University.
I have been to Harbin, China and Kanazawa, Japan during my undergraduate studies for intensive immersion language training.
I worked with students in Middlebury Monterey Language Academy for their Chinese immersion language academy for two summers.
I used and am still using MATLAB for a variety of academic and research settings; these include mathematical modelling, image processing, signal processing, parameter optimization, etc. My current graduate training is in Biomedical Engineering - (M.S. BME).
I took 10 Regents Exams in High School with mean 93.40, median 95.00 and mode 95.00. I graduated with Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors.
My regents exams are in English, Global History, United States History, Math A, Math B, Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics and Chinese Language.
