I became a mother at the age of 20 but interacting with children began long before I became a parent. I was raised with ten siblings, I was the fourth oldest child. In our family structure our mother made each of us children responsible for the child under you (behind you in age). I was responsible for my brother who was four years younger than me.Our responsibilities included making sure your sibling did not fail in school. Education has always been the driving force for our family. As an adult, I read every day to my own children and introduced them to the arts: Music, dancing, and martial arts. I completed college late in life. I began my college career at the University of Evansville by taking night classes. My first successful grade was an "A" in Speech Communication. In 1967,I attended Indiana University, and after I finished playing around in school; I completed my nursing degree in 1998 from LosAngeles Technical College. I completed College in 2002 in the U.K. I received my degree in Business Administration with a minor in Communications from Berkshire University with a 3.4 GPA. I began my working career in the field of Business Management but later converted to Education. I was a classroom teacher in Germany for five years with the USA Army. I taught K-8 grades. When I returned to the USA I worked for Community Action Program of Indiana as an Adult Educator, tutor and mentor. I was the honored Tutor of the Year in 2008 by S.I.N.E (Southwestern Indiana Network Education) Organization. I currently am a Substitute teacher for EVSC School System. I tutor K-12 and Special Needs students. I tutor all elementary subjects, Adult Education (GED), and English as a Second Language. I continue my own education through "ContinuedEducation" courses and workshops. My special interest is traveling and Bible history. I currently mentor women in biblical counseling.

Bible Studies

I have been studying scripture since I was nine (9) years old. I became an ordained minister in 2000 through the World Christian Church. I have diploma's in the following areas: Christian counselor, Diploma in Pastoral Ministry, Diploma in Teaching Ministry, and Apostolic Ministry obtained through Apostolic Movement International Training College in 2008. I have taught Bible classes for many years.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been working in Education since 1995 to present. I was employed by the Department of Defense in Giessen, Germany. I was the Assistant to the Director of Child Development Center. I was directly responsible for two class rooms. In the morning session, my classroom was for three-five year olds. I was responsible for daily lesson plans, health and nutritional guidelines. In the afternoon, I was responsible for six to eight grades. I had to develop lesson plans, activities, health and nutrition curriculums. I am currently employed by the Evansville School Corporation (EVSC), as a Substitute Teacher and afterschool program tutor.

ESL/ESOL

I am not sure of what level English you require but my skills range from K-12, and my degree is in Business Communication. I have tutored international doctors in preparing for global marketing presentations and speaking engagements. I would be happy to serve you.

Phonics

I have been working in Education since 1995 to the present. In 2004, I became certified in Laubach Way to Learning. The Laubach method was developed specifically to help adults with limited or no reading skills achieve success and become confident readers. This structured, phonics-based series works even with learners who have had negative experiences with other reading programs.

Laubach Way to Reading is based on Dr. Frank Laubach's years of research in teaching adults. The series begins with establishing the letter-sound relationships through the use of one-of-a-kind phonics charts. Then, learners progress step by step from the known-spoken words to the unknown-written words.

I am currently employed as a Substitute Teacher. This past school year, I tutored third grade students. It was my responsibility to assist each student (in a class size of 22 students) to be able to successfully gain increased skills in reading, writing, speaking, spelling and listening. The students learned rules for matching sounds to letters to make words. They learned the concept of root words and sounds that help them figure out the meanings of new words.

Public Speaking

My college minor is in Business Communication. I graduated from Berkshire University in 2000. I have been a motivational speaker and workshop trainer since 1998 to present. As the past employee of the Community Action Program of Evansville Family Literacy Supervisor Department, from 2003-2010; I was directly responsible for Adult Education (GED), Family Literacy, and Tutoring. I conducted many workshops on improving family educational skills in Math, Reading and Financial management. I retired from C.A.P.E. but continue to hold training workshops in the community.

Special Needs

I have been working in Education since 1995 to present. I was employed by the Department of Defense in Giessen, Germany. I was the Assistant to the Director of Child Development Center. I was directly responsible for two class rooms. In the morning session, my classroom was for three-five year olds. I was responsible for daily lesson plans, health and nutritional guidelines. In the afternoon, I was responsible for six to eight grades. I had to develop lesson plans, activities, health and nutrition curriculums. I am currently employed by the Evansville School Corporation (EVSC), as a Substitute Teacher. Special Needs students are incorporated in regular class-room, however; I tutor one-on-one special needs students on a regular basis. My special Needs training is through my specialized training as a nurse. I attended Los Angeles Technical College for nursing .

Study Skills

I have been working in Education since 1995 to the present. As past supervisor of C.A.P.E. Learning Center, I was able to help adult learners and K-12 learners. Helping adults and children to learn requires patience and knowledge of learning styles. In order for anyone to learn they must have appropriate studying skills which are useful for continued learning throughout one’s life. There are many different types of study skills for taking in new information or retaining information. There are also many methods for learning how to study one particular method is the Preview, Question, Read, Summary and Test (PQRST method). You also have flashcards, memorizing and visual where diagrams are used. It is important to assist students in finding the best method for themselves to improve time management and learning success.
