You'll find that I am a very upbeat teacher that loves to challenge students beyond their current abilities! I graduated from Baptist Bible College of PA with my BS in Elementary Education & my BS in Bible. I taught Kindergarten for 1 year & First Grade for 3 years.

During my first year of college, I discovered my passion for American Sign Language (ASL). I took a beginner's course & have done several years of study on my own. When I started my teaching career, I found that ASL was so useful in the classroom. It soon became a part of my curriculum & classroom management. I have enjoyed making ASL a part of my family life as well & hope to set-up a basic vocabulary course for hearing students!

I have several passions that are naturally a part of who I am:
I am passionate about my FAITH in Jesus Christ. He has made me the person I am---inside & out! I am so thankful for His leading & guiding in my life!

I am very passionate about my FAMILY! I have enjoyed taking on the greatest teaching position of all---being a wife & Mom!

TEACHING is a big part of who I am. I find such fulfillment in creating curriculum & stretching a student! I am strong in reading, elementary math, & phonics, but enjoy teaching other subjects as well.

CREATIVITY & CRAFTS penetrate all areas of my life. From working my business of making hair bows, sewing, some graphic design & making teaching materials, I am constantly looking for things to learn & implement into my teaching!

Reading

As a former kindergarten and first grade teacher, teaching reading is one of my passions. I have taught phonics for over 7 years now and am currently working with my preschooler. I completely believe in a phonics approach to reading. It gives many students the confidence they need to sound out new words. I've even taught a 4th grade student beginning phonics in which it built his phonemic awareness and reading skills.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a licensed teacher in grades K-8 through the state of Pennsylvania. I have taught for 4 years in the regular classroom. I have also been an Elementary & Middle School substitute for over a year.

General Computer

I loved using the computer in the classroom. My first graders would type out a poem for me every year! Plus, we loved using games to reinforce things we were learning in the classroom. I love creating on the computer. My skills would include mouse use, typing, creating & saving documents with Microsoft Word, creating pictures & publishing using Microsoft Publisher, & putting together basic Powerpoint slides.

Phonics

I grew up using whole-word method. Basically this means that I learned by memorizing each word by the way it looked. It wasn't until college that I learned how to use Phonics. Teaching your child Phonics empowers them to not only learn new words, but helps them to also figure out the meaning & type of word they are using. I taught Kindergarten & First Grade for 4 years, where my primary goal was teaching a child to read using Phonics skills.

Study Skills

I am very passionate in using American Sign Language, song & chants to help a student memorize facts. I also teach skim-reading & summarizing to help a student learn & retain material.

Special Needs

I would love to help a special needs child. I have had experience in separation anxiety, ADD & Asperger's. I have a real passion for ASL & I would love to use my basic knowledge in helping an autistic, deaf, slow or hyper child. I am an upbeat teacher, but I balance fun with firm when needed.

Sign Language

I would be comfortable with tutoring a student who communicates with ASL & reads lips. I would love to teach a hearing student or young child basic vocabulary in ASL. I have taken a basics course at College level & have at least 5 years experience using ASL in the hearing classroom. I am also a quick learner if my skills are challenged with a deaf or special needs student. To give a basic knowledge level, I would say that my vocabulary is in the 500 word range.
