While attending college and working at the IIT campus, I played saxophone for 16 years with the IIT Jazz Band under the direction of Neil D., an instructor at the Vandercook School of Music. The IIT Jazz Band performed throughout the Chicago area during this time.
My three children wished to play the saxophone as well so I taught them. One thing I found was that beginning and intermediate students learn how to play in tune and tempo much faster when there is accompaniment.
For over a decade, I’ve been creating a digital MIDI library creating thousands of scores in the keys of Eb and Bb using Sonar Producer Edition software. These are always very well received when I dub out the leads and play them in clubs.
I’d like to share learning music this way with others. Students really love to play along with the songs they hear on the radio and this helps them maintain interest in continuing their musical education.
