I am the author of several papers on American History. I am very familiar with how to read and understand history books, as well as do original research in the area. I know how to teach students to comprehend what they read, and apply that to answering questions or writing papers. I can teach students how to think clearly about the topic at hand, and how to write a paper that clearly expresses their thoughts.
I have a very broad background in economics. I took some courses in economics at the U. of Chicago and since then have done a great deal of research in the field, particularly in income, age, demographics, and so on. Economics must always use measurements, and I know where to find most of the research that is necessary. I can also teach students how to find papers published in the economics field in JSTOR. And I am very familiar with government sources of data sets. Economics is a fascinating subject and the student should learn how to derive numbers from ideas. I have published papers using economic data and analysis, specifically with groups of people.
I have been an active substitute teacher in IL for 8 years, certified to teach K-12 in all subjects. Often the students said I was the best teacher they ever had. I also studied learning theory and development as a Psychology Major at Loyola U. I have a B.S. degree in Psychology and wrote a Counseling book that was published, the title is "Choices and Decisions." So I have experience working with elementary students. Plus, I raised 3 children and helped them at home, so I am familiar with the issues of scheduling time for homework, completing papers, and taking time to study for tests. My two oldest have graduated college and have bachelor's degrees.
I have worked for 8 years as a Substitute teacher, and have taught elementary math to young students in grade school. Also, I have raised three children and helped them with their homework during the school year. Students have always found my friendly way of explaining problems to be a help to them. I am also the author of a counseling book so I know how to work with young students.
I have worked as a Substitute Teacher in grade schools for 8 years as well as high school. I have a very broad background in science and can explain concepts to grade school children very well. Children have always been happy with the way I take my time to explain things to them. I can also help students comprehend what they read, think clearly about the subject, and complete their homework or writing projects.
I have been publishing my writing for 38 years so I have a great understanding of how to communicate using both written and spoken words. I am also the Author of a book on counseling, so I am very patient with my students and help them understand what may at first seem a challenge to them. I have raised three of my own children and look forward to helping students learn English, both the spoken and written word.
I have been very successful at marketing. I studied marketing at the U. of Chicago. My work experience includes working at advertising agencies. I have published papers that include Marketing demographic data based on age, income, and population. I know how to research and write marketing proposals, as well as explain marketing concepts to students and help them complete their own marketing projects. I do this by assisting them in researching appropriate data they need to complete the project and their marketing class homework. I know both marketing theory, and how to research data to complete marketing homework for business courses. I successfully wrote a marketing proposal to Chrysler Corp. and had them sponsor a national racing team. I have taught marketing as a Sub teacher.
I have published my photos in magazines since 1975. I have knowledge of Photoshop. I have won a national award in Photography, the 1986 Moto Award for a book on Automotive Journalism (Monster Trucks). I have also been a paid professional for fashion models, products, and travel pieces.
Psychology is perhaps my best subject. I majored in Psych in college and received almost straight As in all my classes. I did so well at Loyola U. I took graduate courses as a junior and senior, and starting writing a Psychology book on counseling as a senior, which was published. My experience also includes volunteering at Chicago's Chicago Read Mental Health Center. I am familiar with many areas in psychology and have read all the major works in the field. I am also the author of an academic paper published in psychology.
I am experienced in reading and have taught reading in grades K-12 as a substitute teacher. Since I am a published writer I also have great respect for the written word, and can teach students how to interpret and comprehend what they read, as well as pronounce the words properly. While reading it is important to stop and think about what the author was saying, and to place it in the context of what comes before and after. This helps the student to understand the larger context of what is being read.
I have been a published writer/author for 38 years. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in grades K-12 for 7 years. This has given me a great deal of experience both with writing and teaching others how to read and write. There is no better way to learn how to read than to undertake the tedious chores of writing. I constantly try to learn new words, and use words in new ways. I am also always reading in many subjects, both in the social sciences and in hard sciences such as chemistry and biology. I am familiar with the challenges of reading, have raised three children myself and taught them how to read at home in order to complete their homework.
I am a freelance writer/author of 38 years. I regularly have my work published in national online websites. I am the author of 12 books. I have a great deal of experience writing in many different topics. Two of my papers have been published by academic journals. This, combined with my experience as a Substitute Teacher, makes me a great choice for anyone needing tutoring for an SAT writing test. I would work with students to help them write their own sentences correctly.
I took enough courses in college to have a major in Sociology. And since then I have published papers in the general field of sociology, based on my research in demographics, economics, labor history, ethnic studies, urban studies, and women's issues. I would be able help anyone research papers, formulate a thesis, and find the information needed to prove either a theory or come to conclusions from research and statistical analysis, since I took statistics several times, in college in Psychology and later in economics.
I have a great deal of experience in spelling since I have published my writing for 38 years. I can also teach students how to look up words on the internet or computer dictionary. Spelling can also be taught phonetically: pronouncing each syllable's sound helps to remember how to spell the word. I have also been a Substitute teacher for eight years and frequently talked about spelling to classes in English.
I have produced one TV commercial using After Effects software. I owned a production trailer for location work and have a working, practical knowledge of lighting, managing location problems, hiring makeup artists, etc. I have also produced three music videos which were on local cable TV in the Chicago area for a year. These were in Hip Hop. I synced the audio to the performances of the artists and had to light the artists on location. The audio must be done in a studio first. I would shoot five locations, then sync the performance, cutting in after every second or two seconds of time. I also have a working knowledge of Zaxwerks software, as well as After Effects. I have special effects programs as well. I don't just know the programs or details, but I have practical knowledge of what works and what doesn't.
Vocabulary refers to word use: what words are chosen in order to convey a thought, idea, or paint a picture. Some words have the power to convey feeling and emotion, while others are useful only as a factual reference. The student should learn when to choose words that are best suited to the task at hand. A large vocabulary means a large reference list of words. These must be understood in the context of how the contribute to what is being written. It's important to understand the goal of the written word: whether to persuade or simply convey an emotion or impression. The word used will then be chosen in the proper context.
Writing is my specialty. I have been published for 38 years and am now a continuous contributor to websites on social and political issues. I teach students how to think through what they intend to write, how to write the basic paper and then go back and edit. How to add hyperlinks, footnotes, etc. These are important in all writing, although they are most important in academic writing. The presentation of the subject, the structure of the argument, and the words chosen are all important aspects of writing. It's also important to make the writing interesting and include interesting information whenever possible.
